EA’s Anthem news blowout: Microtransactions, no loot boxes, huge monsters!

Featured Multi-platform News

Anthem is absolutely stunning. EA really set their E3 2018 press conference around it and as you can tell by the trailers, there is a good reason for that. The 3rd person shared world action RPG (take a breath after saying that) is part Mass Effect, part Destiny and part Monster Hunter. If those all come together the way developer Bioware intends, it could be something very special. Luckily we have less than a year to wait.

Anthem releases on PS4, PC and Xbox One February 22nd 2019.

Following a Q&A session with What’s Good Games’ Andrea Rene, Bioware revealed that Anthem will have no pay to win mechanics or loot boxes.

However it will have in game purchases where you’ll know exactly what you’re buying. There is going to be a lot of Exosuit customization in this game which means there’ll be plenty of cosmetic options. We also found out this will not be a single player experience. While it is playable solo the developers are encouraging people to ‘give co-op a try’.

Via IGN we have a ton of gameplay details as well as this video showing off co-op gameplay. We know that the exosuits are representative of a variety of classes; Ranger, Colossus, Storm and Interceptor. In gaming terms? Balanced, Tank, Mage and Rogue. Fortunately the game will not lock your class.

Gameinformer also have an excellent video interview with the developers where they asked rapid fire questions. This revealed a ton of details, such as consoles running the games at 30 frames per second. There is no AI party members or romances, which is unfortunate for a Bioware game. All characters are voiced though, however they’re all humans. The voice acting will definitely give the game higher production value. Flying has a vertical limit and there’s no answer on a public beta yet. The interview has loads more detail and is totally worth checking out!
