Nintendo has announced that there will be a Switch related reveal at 7am Japanese time on Thursday 18th January, Wednesday 17th 10pm UK time.

Taken straight from Nintendo UK’s home page, the reveal is going to be ‘a new interactive experience for Nintendo Switch that’s specially crafted for kids and those who are kids at heart.’ This will likely come in the form of a video uploaded to Youtube at the specified time. Of course the time of the reveal isn’t what fans are interested in, it’s the potential. Inside industry sources are pointing to this being the reveal of a new IP that will focus on bringing more casual players to the gaming platform.

Nintendo Japan referred to the reveal as ‘A new way to play’. This implies that the game may have some sort of accessory tie in, which would make sense due to Nintendo’s incredible success with Amiibo, the interactive figures have seen sales of over 20 million units.

Aya Kyogoku, a lead director for the Animal Crossing series has retweeted the announcement, a rare act, leading many to believe that this studio will be related to the announcement.

Due to the studio’s massive success with 3DS’ Animal Crossing New Leaf, it would make sense for them to be trusted with a new IP targeting the same casual audience. Whether the reveal is going to be a brand new game, some form of accessory or something completely bizarre that shocks us all at the very least we can trust Nintendo for it to be something interesting.
