As revealed by thelootgaming.com everyone’s favorite purple dragon Spyro is finally returning to his roots. The PS1 mascot’s first three adventures are being remastered much like a certain Bandicoot’s first three adventures. Thanks to Amazon Mexico and gamer style.com.mx we now know that Spyro: Reignited Trilogy launches September 21st 2018 and is exclusive to Sony’s PS4. Expect an official announcement very soon. Of course despite the collection currently being a Playstation exclusive we can assume based of the N Sane Trilogy that it will be on other platforms after the one year exclusivity deal with Sony comes to an end. Like Crash Spyro has been multiplatform many times before, starting with Season of Ice, exclusively on GameBoy Advance and the first title not be developed by Insomniac Games. A Hero’s Tale was the first Spyro game to feature on an Xbox console. These days Spyro is best known for the immensely popular and successful ‘toys to life’ franchise Skylanders, which even spawned a Netflix cartoon.

Included in the collection will be Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage! (Gateway to Glimmer in Europe) and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. These games were developed by Insomniac Games, mainly now known for the excellent Ratchet and Clank series, as well as Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive and the upcoming Spiderman PS4. All three games are critically acclaimed and performed well commercially. Fans of the 3D platforming series have been desperate for this announcement ever since the IP’s owner Activision announced that they’d be remastering Crash Bandicoot. Both characters were once synonymous with the Playstation brand, now the games will be accessible to owners of all consoles for the first time (after the exclusivity period).

I can’t wait to replay Spyro, in my opinion these games have always been superior to the dragon’s orange colleague. For constant updates on massive upcoming titles like Borderlands 3 or Marvel’s Spider-Man keep your eyes on thelootgaming.com.

Have your say!
