Is Ni No Kuni II coming to Xbox One?

Update: Bandai Namco has responded to this information on twitter by saying, “Ni No Kuni 2 is only in development for PS4 and Steam”. That is all at this time. Here’s to still hoping for further JRPG announcements for the Xbox One!

As many of you know, Phil Spencer has been very vocal as of late about his commitment to Japanese developers and publishers and getting their games to release on Xbox One. This has become one of the major complaints some gamers have with the Xbox Brand. With previous generations we saw some great Japanese titles release on Xbox platforms. Games like Lost Odyssey, Nier, Bayonetta, Jet Set Radio Future, and Phantom Dust. So far this generation the Japanese support for Xbox One has been pretty sparse.

This is where Phil stepped in. He seemed to have listened to some of his harshest critics and acted on their request. He has openly said he’s visited Japan several times in the past few months and indicating that the response he’s received from Japanese developers has been very positive. Some were even looking at E3 2017 and GamesCom 2017 for some special announcements but those two conferences came and went without any substantial information presented.

That is until Septemeber when Okami HD was confirmed for Xbox One, PS4, PC with 4K support set to release on Decemeber 12th. This news really hit home with the Xbox fans that have been longing for more Japanese games. I hope the excitement for them on Twitter translates to support when they release. That way more Japanese developers/publishers can see that even though the console itself is selling miserably in Japan, that there is still more than enough reason to release their games on the console at the very least in the West.

Okami HD Xbox One

Now we have even more exciting news about yet another Japanese game “possibly” coming to the Xbox One. It’s important to remember here that this is only a rumor at this time, nothing has been confirmed as of yet. It appears from a reddit thread that Ni No Kuni 2 will be coming to Xbox One. One special caveat to point out here is that due to Microsoft’s policy on physical releases (a minimum order quantity must be met in order to release in physical form) it appears that this game will only be available digitally in the US and will get a physical release in the UK.

Ni No Kuni 2 is set to relase on January 19, 2018 on PS4 and PC (as of now that is all that is confirmed). I expect we should hear more soon whether or not this rumor is true or not in the coming weeks. I for one truly hope it is. While PlayStation is my primary platform, I will definitely double dip with games like this in effort to garner more support for the Xbox One going forward from other Japanese developers/publishers. How about you? Will you be looking forward to Okami HD and Ni No Kuni 2 releasing on Xbox One? Will you be showing support for these games or do you have little to no interest in them? I’d love to hear your feedback with this. If any more information comes forward about this, I will be sure and let you know. Until then, lets just hope that this rumor turns out to be an early announcement, fingers crossed.
