Jump Force Welcomes Soul Reapers to its Character Roster

Bandai Namco threw an unexpected curve ball with the reveal of Jump Force back in June at their E3 Conference. My anime senses were tingling as I watched Naruto, Luffy, Goku, and Frieza battle it out on vast stages with their unique powers. As Bandai Namco has explained, the game will feature a 3v3 tag team dynamic thus unlocking limitless combinations for your ultimate brawler squad.

Today, Jump Force has introduced 3 Bleach characters into the mix allowing everybody’s Soul Reaper fantasy to come true. Ichigo Kurosaki, Rukia Kuchiki, and Sosuke Aizen have joined the character roster which now stands at 9. They all feature costumes from the ‘Thousand Year Blood War’ arc which is strictly from the manga! These costumes have never been animated, making this even more exciting for hardcore fans. This information was originally brought about by the 31st issue of Weekly Shonen Jump.

The confirmed characters are as follows:

Frieza (Dragonball Z)
Goku (Dragonball Z)
Luffy (One Piece)
Zoro (One Piece)
Naruto Uzumaki (Naruto Shippuden)
Sasuke Uchiha (Naruto Shippuden)
Sosuke Aizen (Bleach)
Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach)
Rukia Kuchiki (Bleach)

Furthermore, we have had glimpses of possible story characters such as Ryuk and Light Yagami. Jump Force’s producer Koji Nakajima confirmed that Ryuk, our much feared Shinigami, would not be a playable character due to being “too strong”. This has left a world divided due to some people agreeing whilst others favour Goku as the stronger character. The introduction of our beloved Soul Reapers could have possibly leveled the playing field now? Either way, it will be interesting to see how Light and Ryuk move the story along.

Bandai Namco have also revealed a new stage… your characters will now be able to battle on the neon streets of Hong Kong whilst Blackbeard’s ship (One Piece) can be seen in the background. Another story character perhaps? Only time will tell.

The vast expanse of franchises within this one genre means that the roster can do nothing but expand. Nakajima has guaranteed that “there will be characters that will surprise everyone“. I hope you can agree that it will be extremely interesting to see what new characters are revealed from now until the game’s release on PS4, XB1, and PC in 2019.

Have your say!
