NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 Will Feature Michael Jordan, His Signature Free Throw Line Dunk, and possibly Microtransactions?

2K announced Tuesday morning, via press release, that NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 will be releasing October 16, 2018, for Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PS4, for a delightful $29.99. 2K went on to announce the “cover athletes” for the title, Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Karl Anthony-Towns, Kevin Garnett, and Jason Taytum. Even more exciting, the full roster will include legendary players fans missed out on the first title, such as Kobe Bryant, Kareem-Abdul Jabbar, and arguably the greatest of all time, Michael Jordan and his signature free throw line dunk as an exclusive move!

As far as features go, NBA 2K Playgrounds  2 steps it up substantially from its predecessor. NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 has over 100 signature moves, a whole collection of various game modes, including the much needed Season mode to breath a life of replayability missing in the first title, a Playgrounds Championship mode, enhanced matchmaking, more power-ups, custom matches – and possibly microtransactions?

Nothing in the way of microtransactions was announced, but if you watch the trailer above, you’ll see that in-game currency has been added to your available unlocks from opening sticker packs. It’s entirely possible, with the trend of the industry, that this in-game currency will be available through both playing the game and/or paying up front for it.

We’re excited to see how NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 will command the court this time around, now that developer Saber Interactive has picked up 2K as its publisher. The original Playgrounds was a good chunk of fun, but what it lacked was longevity and a reason to come back, so were optimistic the new Seasons mode will help bring players back well after its release.
