Xbox fans should be very excited for E3 2019 if recent comments by Xbox head Phil Spencer are to be believed. According to an email from Spencer acquired by Thurrott, this is what he said immediately after the recent Google Stadia announcement:
“Their announcement is validation of the path we embarked on two years ago.”
“Today we saw a big tech competitor enter the gaming market, and frame the necessary ingredients for success as Content, Community and Cloud. There were no big surprises in their announcement although I was impressed by their leveraging of YouTube, the use of Google Assistant and the new WiFi controller.”
“There has been really good work to get us to the position where we are poised to compete for 2 billion gamers across the planet. Google went big today and we have a couple of months until E3 when we will go big.”
The main man at Xbox has already made lofty claims about this year’s E3 and we already know Xbox will have plenty to talk about. Gears 5 is supposed to release this year, Halo Infinite is well into development and then there’s Battletoads, whatever comes next for Forza, Rare’s next project and whatever Playground are doing now (Fable). There will also be a lot of Xcloud at E3 I’d think, based on Phil’s comments about Google and validation.
