PUBG storms on to Xbox One with an early milestone

Battle Royale Featured News Xbox

After much hype and anticipation, Xbox One owners finally got their eager hands on the PC phenomenon called PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds on the 12th December. While the title is only in “Game Preview” and is therefore openly acknowledged as unfinished, it has already been called out for its numerous performance issues on the console. Chief among the complaints seems to be the occasions of some rather appalling frame rates, especially on a non “X” Xbox.

However, these will not be enough to sour the most positive news the game has had since launch. While improvements and optimizations will of course continue to be made to the game as it marches towards it’s “final release” incarnation, the folks behind it can be very happy with the titles initial popularity. Both Microsoft and developer PlayerUnknown have announced that, in a mere 48hrs, PUBG has already hit “more than 1 million players”. Now while this choice of wording does not necessarily mean a million copies sold (due to things like game sharing screwing the numbers) it’s safe to assume that the actual sales figures are still very, very impressive.

Microsoft is choosing to take advantage of the games rapid popularity by making it a free pack in title with it’s new Xbox One X console, which makes sense as the game does run significantly better on the upspecced system. This offer runs for a limited time from Dec 17th through to Dec 31st. So if you want to play the best console version of the biggest multiplayer title this year (and also enjoy all those other beautifully enhanced games) maybe it’s worth having a last minute word with Santa and adding an Xbox One X to your list.
