Late night yesterday Rockstar Games announced that the online portion for Red Dead Redemption 2 would be launching in beta starting today, November 27th. However, only users who purchased the Ultimate Edition are able to play starting today. On Wednesday, November 28th users who played the game on October 26th are able to join the beta. On the 29th, all users who played the game during the period of October 26th – October 29th are able to hop into some online action. Finally, all players will be able to play the beta on October 30th. The reason behind the split beta periods is to alleviate stress on servers and to allow all players to experience the online western world.
Rockstar has stated the following about the beta period,
“During this process, we will be looking to our dedicated community to help us report and fix problems, share ideas, and assist in shaping the future of the full Online experience. As with all of our releases, we will strive to make the launch of Red Dead Online the best it can possibly be, and we ask that the community share that spirit with us over the next weeks and months.”
Red Dead Redemption 2’s online multiplayer mode will be free (although an Xbox Live / PS Plus membership is required) and available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One systems. In addition to the release, PS4 users will have access to exclusive online content.
