Slightly Mad Studios Is Making A Console

Back in 2008, a private company launched a video game studio called Slightly Mad Studios in London, England. Since then, the company has released games in the racing genre such as Need For Speed: Shift, Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends, and the well received Project Cars. The latest venture of this company, which was at one point the number 17th ranked developer in the Develop 100 list back in 2010, is a move no one could have thought or predicted.

The CEO and founder of Slightly Mad Studios group, Ian Bell, decided to make a Twitter account and launch the news in his first tweet that a new console is coming from them.

With that bombshell of news, he went into further detail on what this console will be capable of.

The goal is to make the console perform at 4K, support VR, have 60fps for both eyes, and to make the engine free for everyone to develop on.

On speaking with Variety, Bell went into further detail on what we can expect from The Mad Box. The price is to be competitive with the next Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as they intend to launch in about three years, but it would also be compatible with most VR headsets. Bell seems confident and said it would be comparable to PC’s launching in two years and, as of now, first party releases aren’t a priority because there is no plan to offer incentives to developers to be exclusive.

The announcement comes as a surprise and we’ll have to wait and see what actually happens, as the company did once promise a Wii U version of Project Cars that they we’re extremely happy with and offered a Kickstarter goal that was accomplished but it never released and was ultimately cancelled.

With all of that said, are you excited for The Mad Box? Do you think another console in the market can be successful? Comment down below and let us know what you think and remember to follow The Loot Gaming for all your gaming news and reviews and on everything console related.
