Top 5 Resident Evil Games

Being a fan of the Resident Evil franchise and horror games, I decided to share my thoughts and recommendations on the top 5 games you can play alone (if you’re brave) or with a friend. This list includes co-op gameplay, tons of survival horror and more for anyone new to Resident Evil, to existing fans looking to play others in the series.

  1. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Starting off, Resident Evil 3 is a must play for old school survival horror fans, originally released in 1999 but brought to Gamecube in 2003, this game featured fixed camera angles that many people know Resident Evil for having. You play as protagonist Jill Valentine fighting her way through Raccoon City which has been overrun by zombies. She teams up with Carlos Oliveira, a mercenary who works for Umbrella, but her fight soon becomes more challenging as she is faced with a new threat named Nemesis. You will be followed around the game by Nemesis which dials the adrenaline from this game up by a ton, if you’re a fan of the new Resident Evil 2 remake but haven’t played any others then this might be one for you.

  1. Resident Evil

One of the best games to play if you are new to the series is Resident Evil. Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker and Barry Burton all end up in an abandoned mansion after an assignment gone wrong. You have the option in this game to play as either Chris or Jill and search the mansion for your missing team members and find many horrifying secrets along the way. The fixed camera angles make the game super intense and there are many jump scares to be had from it. This game is by far one of my favorite games that got me into the series because of its eerie atmosphere and tense music throughout, it also includes lots of puzzles and works your memory! The HD remaster is on Xbox One, PS4, and PC, featuring huge snakes and zombie dogs!

  1. Resident Evil 5

Okay so, this game has had a lot of bad reviews in the past and it wasn’t that well received when it was released. However, it is on my top list because of the crazy amount of fun you can have with another player. This game is one of the best co-op experiences I’ve had, and it’s a bonus because it’s a Resident Evil game! Taking place in Kijuju, Africa, Chris Redfield along with his partner Sheva Alomar is locating a man named Ricardo Irving who is intending to sell a bio-organic weapon on the black market. Resident Evil 5 does not feature fixed camera angles and is more of an over the shoulder shooter game where you fight enemies that have been infected. You can upgrade weapons, find treasure and it even has a multiplayer Mercenaries mode where you can take down enemy waves. This game has just been released on Xbox Game Pass and I cannot recommend it enough.

  1. Resident Evil 2 Remake

This game is the newest Resident Evil release from Capcom and one of my favorite games in the series. It takes place 2 months after the events in Resident Evil and you have the option to play as Claire Redfield or Leon Kennedy. As Claire, you are looking for your brother Chris Redfield at the Raccoon City Police Department, but you encounter a young girl named Sherry Birkin and you try to help her to safety. In the Leon scenario, you are a cop who was meant to be having his first day on the force, but that does not go as planned. These scenarios are similar, and it can be tedious to play one straight after another but can also be rewarding for players who love a challenge and get enjoyment out of full completion. This game looks incredible and has many shocking and emotional moments throughout and I enjoyed every bit of it. It is great as a standalone game and it also features minigames and skin unlocks once completed.

  1. Resident Evil 4

This game is my favorite game of all time and I am so happy to share it with you on this list. Resident Evil 4 was one of the first over the shoulder shooter style games that Capcom made for the series and that’s what makes this one so fun. It’s full of action and cheesy comedic moments but also includes a well-written storyline and more puzzles to figure out! You play as Leon Kennedy who has been assigned to find the presidents daughter Ashley Graham but quickly find she has been kidnapped by a cult. You soon must fight your way through villagers who are infected with a mind-controlling parasite known as Las Plagas. This game has loveable and interesting characters, amazing locations, tense atmospheres, quick time events and has one of the most terrifying enemies I’ve ever come across in a video game. This game also features the iconic Merchant character who gives you access to new weapons and upgrades. Resident Evil 4 was originally released in 2005 so if you aren’t bothered by not having top of the range graphics and appearances then hopefully you will enjoy this game, the HD version is available on PC and next-gen consoles.
