GAMEPLAY

The game brings a new feature in which the player has to deal with the settings of the F1 car in career mode, the player will pass through all the components of the car before the season ends. Just like the real F1 championship the player can only choose from four components, requiring more will result in grid penalties forcing the driver to choose wisely the team tactics.

The race strategy planning takes place before the actual race starts, at this stage the player can decide the amount of fuel carried and the pit-stop plan, being a key part of the game it can move the balance in your benefit to win each race. This absolutely gives the game the spot of realism it needed, you will feel you are managing a true F1 team opening new entertaining possibilities, meaning that the game is not just about driving your F1 from the start to the end…

The game also offers a new developed R&D tree in which the player can invest research points to balance the different car departments; these are gained through the races and completing team objectives.

New developed R&D tree

The tree includes upgrades in the chassis, aerodynamics, power and general durability; As it is a non-lineal upgrade system each point expended must be carefully planned in order to get the most favorable setting, this increases the time of gameplay based out of the actual race.

It seems that there are many features that we have to take into account, but once you catch the game´s dynamic you will appreciate how well is to have the possibility to adapt the car to your own preferences and personal strategy. Of course, there is a recommended upgrade if you don´t want to think much about it.

I personally enjoy playing this amazing game, it simulates very good the F1 experience and still you can drive your car decently with your controller (As other car simulation games seems to be designed based on the use of a steering wheel controller), there are different competitions modes, in career mode you will experience the full F1 competition features, taking more time for the player in between the races to update and prepare the car for the different competitions and conditions; while on the other you can choose between more compacted game modes which skip a great part of this “car setting up” and being more focused on the races; another incredible feature the game brings us are the classic F1 cars which you can choose in this game modes and also in the multiplayer mode…

GRAPHICS & SOUND

The developers made a great job when coming to the sound and graphics issue, the objective of any simulator is to basically represent as much as possible the reality and transmit this sensations to the actual player; well this game got it, it catches the player´s attention immediately, the detailing of the 2017 and classic cars is beautiful, the scenario is meticulously design to represent the different destinations and its landscape, buildings and the environment but not only that, the effects applied to the car driving experience will make you feel like if you were actually driving a F1 racing car, the sound of the engine and the gear box, the car breaking and the wires sliding across each corner is awesome, they really exploited the possibilities that the new generation consoles are opening.

SUMMARY

This is absolutely the best F1 that has come to the market, the new career modes, the different features the game offers and the improved experience over the control of a F1 racing car makes it a very attractive game for racing players. The new dynamic provides another way of entertainment in the racing competition games, keeping the player focused for hours! I really enjoyed playing it and running each different circuit round the F1 world, it´s simply amazing.

The new career mode opens many possibilities to the player, a new and improved R&B tree brings a balance between team management and racing taking the F1 experience to a new level from my point of view; making the player feel like part of something more complex, that there is more behind the scenes and that strategy and engineering plays a crucial part in this game. Although it will take some time to learn how to properly upgrade your car, the recommended option solves pretty well this issue.
