Shawn Layden comments on console cross play

“We’re hearing it. We’re looking at a lot of the possibilities. You can imagine that the circumstances around that affect a lot more than just one game. I’m confident we’ll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business.”

This way Layden’s response to a Eurogamer reporter at Spain’s Gamelab conference. The full article including the question can be found here at Eurogamer.

This is the first response from Sony that actually acknowledges the situation and address the outcry from gamers ever since Fortnite launched on Nintendo Switch and refueled the fires of the cross play debate. Since then, a lot has developed. Sony issued a tone deaf statement about cross play being available with PC and mobile platforms. Former Sony developer John Smedley then chimed in, claiming the internal reason for the lack of console cross play was as simple as “money”. Recently we at thelootgaming.com received information via a PR source that Sony is working on a console cross play solution internally to be revealed before April 2019 alongside some other network updates.
